8/12/2014 - This design didn't fit the requirements of the Weekend Art Challenge, but I liked it well enough to share. Originally she just had the second ability, but the first ability was a nice fit, gives the card clear internal purpose, and doesn't increase the power level as much as it might seem.
I feel like the second ability *should* work, but I don't know whether it actually does. Do non-actions happen nearly-continuously, or is it clear enough that this refers to the specific untap action intrinsic to the untap step? Does the creature need to be tapped for you to draw, or would an untapped Mina trigger a draw just for surviving?
ReplyDeleteI think 'not untapping' can trigger the same as 'not blocking' from ninjitsu, but I hadn't thought about creatures that start the turn untapped. We can add "Whenever a tapped creature doesn't untap…" to make that clear.
DeleteCould be "At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, draw a card for each tapped creature he or she controls," but I prefer the parallelism of the current wording.
ReplyDeleteThe Commander deck this card asks for sounds awfully unfun to play against, so I think you were right to make Mina fragile.
I assume the first ability is meant to stun the damaged creature, not Mina herself? It's rather ambiguous though, especially since legends use "it" to refer to themselves (it's still only planeswalkers who get personal pronouns).
ReplyDeleteWhenever CARDNAME deals damage to a creature, tap that creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.

Whenever a tapped creature doesn't untap during its controller's untap step, draw a card.
James' wording is less error-prone, but doesn't let you benefit from your own super-tapped creatures. We can't swap 'opponent' for 'player' because then you can activate tap abilities in response to the upkeep trigger. If Dev/Editing said we couldn't use the first version, I would be plenty happy to use James'.
I hadn't even considered that it works on your creatures. They're a rare breed, but comboing this with the likes of Dormant Gomazoa is too good to pass up.
ReplyDeleteOooo! This is a great idea. And new!
