3/5/2015 - I took this stab at a new Sarkhan before DTK previews began. That shows as early as the second word, because 'dragonlord' is the exact term DTK uses to refer to the five dragons who rule the clans instead of khans, so Sarkhan is clearly not a dragonlord. I'm also now thinking there's a good chance he'll be red-green.
Of course, we might not get a new Sarkhan in DTK at all, since we already got a new Sarkhan in this block and a new planeswalker in this set.
I'm now thinking Sarkhan's loyalty should start at 5 or 6, his first ability should be +1, and the second -2; it's quite good.
Seems a little too close to Chandra, Pyromaster.
ReplyDeleteagreed
DeleteWe've gotten four planeswalkers so far in this block: mono-red, white-black, white-blue, and colorless. A green planeswalker would fill out the block nicely (although I doubt it'll be another Sarkhan).
ReplyDeleteYeah. He'd have to completely abandon his love of dragons to be mono-green, I think. Seems unlikely.
DeleteNow I'm trying to stop my brain talking designing a mono green planeswalker that cares about dragons as a challenge.
ReplyDeleteI guess it IS a parallel reality, but if Sarkhan goes non Dragon it would have made more sense in Khans not Dragons :)
Lots of things change when you save a spirit dragon a millennium ago. I could see Sarkhan realizing that the world he has wrought is terrible and that his admiration for dragons was misplaced. Sarkhan, Dragonhunter.
DeleteStill doesn't sound mono-green, though.
Also the last ability does not synergise at all with the other 2. It drives you to either a dragon themed deck or a no dragons at all deck.
ReplyDeleteI'd say this drives you toward a deck with lots of dragons, but not all dragons, but your point is very good still.
DeleteSo... about that red-green Sarkhan!
ReplyDeleteI want the -6 to be an Emblem that says 'Creatures you own are dragons in addition to their other types. Dragon creatures you control have flying and +3/+3.'
ReplyDeleteThe way you have it worded, only the creatures which are currently on the battlefield when you activate it get any advantage, so unless you're running token spam, this -6 really isn't that worth it. Do it my way, and you'll be firing off dragon tempest every time you play a creature. Sarkhan's Triumph will fetch any creature card from your library. Sure, you might end up with a few 4/4 dragons, but that's really no big deal, since you're also likely to get out 8/8 or 9/9 dragons. +3/+3 is what Crucible of fire does for dragons, so it makes sense for me that Sarkhan should do it too. Also, Crucibles of fire will hit all your creatures, and you'll always have a dragon for Draconic roar.
I wouldn't worry about being too humble with your balancing here. :P
