Fun and unique! My gut feeling is the lower toughness is definitely right, as an attacking deathtouch 1/2 or 1/3 is easier to trade 1-for-1 with than a deathtouch 1/4.
Running off that idea, it's interesting to think about what a WUBRG swiftspear megacycle might look like. Green is an easy slide into the boggle-slot, and if we're willing to expand out of evergreen, there's cute things to do in blue.
Gladecover Ranger G Creature - Elf Scout Prowess, hexproof 0/1
Unassuming Archivist U Creature - Vedalken Wizard Prowess, skulk 0/1
But what would you do in W? What's the most interesting one-drop in W (or artifact!) we can come up with?
I think this is a great idea, but I'm not sure it's good for common. A lot of people might be confused as to how a deathtoucher with 0 power works, right?
But for uncommon, this is an intriguing but punchy design!
WotC probably (definitely) knows more than I do, but I never really thought 0-power deathtouch creatures were confusing. I feel like most players intuitively grasp that a 0-power creature deals no damage.
Does the confusion come from players wondering "why would they print a 0-power deathtoucher if it didn't work"? And if so, does this 'fix' that issue by providing a clear way to increase the creatures power?

ReplyDeleteI'd go down to 0/1, making it the undead version of monastery swiftspear.
ReplyDeleteReally great idea I'm general!

First strike?
DeleteHow about a Doomed Traveler variant? 0/1 Prowess that dies into a 0/1 Prowess.
Delete"Prowess, Undying" might raise some red flags at W but certainly makes for interesting blocking decisions. I like it!
