I really liked the cycle of ally-hybrid legendary creature designs in the recent Jumpstart release: Emiel the Blessed, Inniaz, the Gale Force, Kels, Fight Fixer, Neyith of the Dire Hunt, and Sethron, Hurloon General. They're mono-colored legendary creatures with two abilities, one of which adds an optional allied color to their color identity using hybrid mana. They mostly don't do super-novel mechanical things, but they do a lot to make existing themes fresh and accessible, especially for deck-builders in Commander and similar formats.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to imagine a version of this cycle that uses enemy-color hybrid instead of ally-color hybrid and design a card from that cycle. Bonus points if it somehow refreshes or simplifies a well-known mechanical theme.
Good luck and have fun!
Zanik, Rot Farm Elementalist - 3G
ReplyDeleteLegendary Creature - Elf Shaman (Mythic)
When Zanik, Rot Farm Elementalist enters the battlefield, put three +1/+1 counters on target land you control. It becomes a 0/0 Elemental creature with haste.
Whenever a creature dies, you may pay 2B/G. If you do, put two +1/+1 counters on each land creature you control.

I love how well this design tells a clear and fun story.
DeleteMechanically I'm not sure how I'd build around it. Awaken deck with land-creature synergies? Sacrifice deck that wins by attacking with huge lands? Lands deck that imitates Titania or Gitrog Monster? Being so open-ended is unusual for this kind of design, but I like it.
3 mana is a lot to hold up waiting for a creature to die, so I wonder about a version that has a Deathrite Shaman / Scavenging Ooze "exile target creature card from a graveyard" activation instead.
A bit late to the party but here goes.

Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
Whenever an instant or sorcery you control deals damage to an opponent or a permanent an opponent controls, it deals twice that damage instead.
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery that targets an opponent, you may pay R/U and choose a new target for that spell. If you do, copy that spell targeting the original opponent.
