This weekend's challenge is to design a card whose name is a recognizable phrase that includes a color word (white, blue, black, red, or green). Some good examples would be Black Cat and See Red. Bonus points if card's color identity and rules text don't include that color (like Sacred White Deer, Black Lotus, and Riding Red Hare).
Good luck and have fun!
White Lies (B)
ReplyDeleteSorcery (rare)
Target player reveals their hand. You choose a nonland card from it. That player discards that card, then if they have less cards in hand than you do, you lose two life and they gain two life.
Not sure if we need more Thoughtseizes but I like the overall drawback.
DeleteI love the choice of card name. Re-thinking the creepy Duress / Inquisition of Kozilek / Thoughtseize flavor of targeted discard is a cool idea too, and "lying/deception" makes a lot of sense as an alternative flavor.
DeleteI do agree with Doug that this is too close to a second Thoughtseize, maybe even better. (Also, why would a "white lie" make the liar lose life?)
For a steeper and maybe more flavorful drawback, how about making this the Vendilion Clique ability a stand-alone instant or sorcery for U?
Sing the Blues 2BB
ReplyDeleteEnchantment - Aura (R)
Enchant Creature
Whenever enchanted creature becomes tapped, its controller puts a -1/-1 counter on each other creature that player controls.
A nice, creepy reminder that "the blues" originally meant "actually really miserable" and not "fun and jazzy". Very inventive and vivid use of the concept.
DeleteMechanically I'm concerned this would just be a worse Paralyzing Grasp 99-plus percent of the time, though I'd be all for running it with Goblin Spymaster and the like. Maybe make it an upkeep trigger instead?
