It's been pointed out that the Midnight Hunt set contains a partial cycle of curses-- a rare of each color except for green. Your challenge this week is to design the green entry, i.e. a rare green card with type "Enchantment- Aura Curse" that would fit well in the Midnight Hunt environment. For bonus points, make it a DFC without disturb or daybound.
Good luck and have fun!
When I saw this challenge I started thinking about what different effects green does and how to turn them into a curse, by I quickly came to a realization.
ReplyDeleteGreen, is kinda *bad* at control. And curses are for the most part quite controlling.
So, this is what I arrived at:
Curse of hunger || {2}{G}{G}{G}
Aura - curse
Enchant player
As this permanent transforms into curse of hunger, attach it to target player.
Creatures enchanted player controls have “this creature blocks each combat if able”
Whenever a creature you control dies, transform curse of hunger.
//
Lureweb Recluse
Creature - Spider
Reach
All creatures your opponents control must block CARDNAME if able
Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, transform CARDNAME
4/7
Lots to parse out here in terms of how this plays! I guess it mostly functions on your turn where depending on whose creature died last it's either the curse that makes everything block or the spider that makes everything block it. In most situations I assume I'd rather have the spider, but I only get it if I'm losing creatures. So overall this is a kind of one-sided Grand Melee, or an Elvish Bard but for whatever you're attacking with? Even without the sometimes-a-4/7 part that's a cool and innovative effect.
DeleteI'm unsure about the flavor match and whether the DFC/transform aspect is pulling its weight here, but overall I'm intrigued.
Little Vorinclex action:
ReplyDeleteCurse of Weakness 4G
Enchantment - Aura Curse
Enchant Player
If enchanted player would put one or more counters on a permanent or player, they put half that many of each of those kinds of counters on that permanent or player instead, rounded down.
Cards that only work if the opponent is following a specific strategy tend to be a design trap. This is a plausible sideboard card but we'd probably have to reduce the mana cost and make it cantrip for it to pull its weight.
DeleteLove the flavor and concept though!
