Midnight Hunt showcased two kinds of cards that care about the day-night mechanic: daybound / nightbound DFCs, and "twilight" cards that care about day turning to night or back in white, blue, and red. But I'm sure we can find something more to do with the mechanic! Design a rare instant that references day or night. (Hint: remember to specify what happens if it's neither day nor night.) For bonus points, make it as much of a top-down design as possible.
Good luck and have fun!

Return target spell or permanent with mana value 1 or greater to its owner’s hand. It becomes night.
When it becomes day, exile Pistols at Dawn from your graveyard and deal 3 damage to any target.
This is brilliant! A from-the-graveyard trigger is a neat way to make day and night relevant on a single non-permanent card. The flavor is tons of fun. And there's even some mechanical synergy since bounce makes the opponent more likely to want to cast 2+ spells.
DeleteI would say "nonland permanent" over "permanent with mana value 1 or greater" but otherwise I wouldn't change a thing.
