2/13/2013 - What would a modern Land Tax look like? Knight of the White Orchid and Kor Cartographer are the most recent implementations. They don't show up often (nor should they, as the effect dangerously encroaches on already too-similar Green), but I think these cards show that it's still part of white's color pie.
While this is usually worse than Rampant Growth, it might be a little too efficient for white. 2W?
This is an awesome card. Kor Cartographer is definitely indicative of white getting a little something-something with land search. But, rightfully so, white should only get Plains. You're doing this here, which is good. Green's the one who's color pie is supporting multiple colors.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I want this name for a different spell. It'd be a green spell that searches for Forests in some manner. Scapeshift comes to mind for the "grass is greener on the other side" thing.
Nit-picky personal preference regarding the name aside, this is awesome.
What if it got a Forest instead of a Plains?
DeleteI think the version that fetches a basic forest is much less of a strain on the color pie (especially at 2 CMC). Giving mono-white a reliable way to jump from 2 to 4 feels pretty loose without forcing them to at least touch green.

Search your library for a Plains card and put it into your hand. If To Greener Pastures was kicked, put that card onto the battlefield tapped instead.
This would could function as (slightly inferior) Farseeks 5-8 in some decks, but would have the backup mode of Tithe.

If an opponent controls two or more lands than you, put that card onto the battlefield instead.
If you're really 2 lands behind, shouldn't you just have a Plains in this slot in your deck instead of a value landfetch card?
ReplyDeleteBoth versions of this card feel very White to me - the first half ensures you make your land drops, and the second lets you play catch-up when you're behind. Both help you play a 'fair' game of magic.
