Cool Card Design of the Day
4/24/2014 - I played Magic on Easter with my nephew is transitioning from Duels of the Planeswalkers to paper Magic. I also played with another niece and nephew and did a lot of teaching. This is where I learned viscerally how terrible the hand limit is. But this post is about a cool idea one of them gave me.
I had two Graverobber Spiders (from his GB BoG Starter deck) and he asked if pumping one affected both. That's a very sensible question since Magic uses CARDNAME instead of "this" and could easily be referring to any or each creature with that name. But it also occurred to me that the answer could be 'yes.'
I let this card affect all lizards instead of just Pack Wallas to differentiate it more from Timberpack Wolf, but that makes it look more like a lizard lord, which wasn't my intention. Distraction Fail.
Speaking of which, this concept probably wants to be a wolf, but I was amused by the name and the thought of a whole group of lizards hunting together.
Clearly this should be an Auroch...
ReplyDeleteBut that aside, I love it! I suspect it really only wants to hit same named cards. It is still better than the Wolves, because it can pump itself.
+1/+1 to a bunch of your creatures feels more white than green.
ReplyDeleteCylian Sunsinger says you might be right. I like bringing this below rare, though.
DeleteI forgot about the Sunsinger. Green/White is safe. Mono-green and mono-white are arguable.
DeleteWhat went wrong with the hand limit?
ReplyDeletePresumably someone got mana screwed and had to discard! I can't wait til they get rid of the hand limit.
DeleteExactly. It's the worst when someone can't play and then you punish them for that, not just by making them lose a card, but making them choose.
DeleteI was playing around with the random card generator last week and I got this card
ReplyDelete~ {1}{G}
Creature- Spider
reach
{2}{G}: Target spider gets +3/+3 until end of turn. activate this ability only once per turn.

this stood out to me as a sweet card with a lot of utility. i remember it because it plays into the same Ideas of this card.
It does indeed, and in a(n arguably) mono-green way. Sweet.
DeleteLizard Lord, eh?
ReplyDeletePack Walla 1G
Creature Lizard (U)
Abilities that can only be used once per turn may be used any number of times per turn.
