Cool Card Design of the Day 7/27/2015 - Here's a high-variance red rare for players to love and hate. (And a rare example of me not even trying to flavor a bottom-up design.)
Interesting card. Typically it'll swing 4/3 or 3/4. Worth it? Not really, I think. But if you can take advantage of every draw your opponent does, it gets better.
This is totally an example of something annoying enough to implement that we wouldn't want it showing up in tournaments, but the effect is really neat. Maybe better as an upkeep trigger on some elemental? That sounds like a fun card.
Intellectually I love symmetrical effects like this, they make great "designer porn" as I'm fond of calling it. I had as much fun with Stasis as the next guy (okay, maybe more fun), but I do notice we see a lot fewer symmetrical effects these days. Why is that?
It's hard to make symmetrical cards that are both playable and not crazy powerful. They also tend to avoid them more for the same reason they changed the lords to boost only your own creatures.
I instantly thought of Mario Party. : )

Would be great in a burn deck wouldn't it?

I think there's been a gradual trend towards more-upside cards.

DeleteI will say, getting to animate a Mutavault to islandwalk past my opponent's Lord of Atlantis is pretty sweet.
DeleteOne-shot spell effects shouldn't create the board complexity problems of Lords though.
While I think this would be a bit troublesome in a standard product, it seems like it would be excellent for a Commander Supplemental.
ReplyDeleteMaaaybe even an Un- set.
DeleteReally disappointed that this doesn't combo with Krark's Thumb. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt combos rather well with Notion Thief or Plagiarize. Of course, so do Trade Secrets or Prosperity.
