CCDD 080216—Forbidden Knowledge

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/2/2016 - I'd love for this card to be cheaper—even if it needs to be rare—but maybe 3 is cheap enough?

  1. Less clean, but you might find a cheaper balanced rare by pushing the draw to the next upkeep. Hard to find a subtle or flavorful wording of that on an enchantment, though.

    Enchantment (black)
When ~ enters the battlefield, you gain "{B}: Draw a card" until end of turn.
At the beginning of your end step, you lose 1 life for each card in your hand.

    2. The only reason I don't love this is that it's so much easier to sacrifice a creature, whereas an evil enchantment really feels like the cost of using dark magics.

    3. Yeah, I much prefer the enchantment.

Maybe even an Aura - Curse?

    4. Forbidden Study is pretty cool.

Your Curse, Jenesis, could you target your opponent?

    6. I mean, if it's Forbidden Knowledge but targetable, you could kill a player with a full grip in two turns.

    1. Seems a shame to require extra cardboard. I definitely see how this is safer, but I find it quite charming that black can shirk its debt by sullying itself with white or green.
