CCDD 081516—Dropkick

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/15/2016 - I had intended to follow up ridealong and coattails with dropkick weeks ago, but forgot. Here it is now. Dropkick doesn't care about CMC and that makes it a good bit simpler than its predecessors. It's less a kicker mechanic, but it's no less interesting (and more purely related to surge).

The uncommon and rare cards can spend more effort driving home the tension between getting the bonus and just using all your mana to cast the spell earlier.

You'll notice three different dropkick templates on those creatures. The first doesn't allow effects that care about the creature like Berseker and Bears. The second lets you dropkick with a single spell (like Zombify or Tooth and Nail). The last allows the most flexibility and preserves dropkick's intent, but is such awkward reading. Among those options, I expect Berserker's is best.

When ~ enters the battlefield, if you cast another spell this turn, put +1/+1 counters on it equal to that spell's converted mana cost.
    1/1

Not sure how that resolves if you've cast multiple spells, but I like the idea of the gameplay.

    1. That's cool! Guessing it needs to cost more or be smaller for common, but at uncommon… it's like kicker for anything.

Actually, it scales inversely so… a 1G for 2/2 is safer, and a 3/3 for 3G even moreso.
