2/14/2017 - This first Adventure Trail came from the idea of some terrible dual lands from Magic's dark years, I think. If you really need color, you can get it and this turn, but you'll be down a land next turn.
The second version came top-down from the title 'Adventure Trail' from the illustration I found for the first card.
This gives you random colors of mana—mostly downside—but also scries for you too.
The second one seems way too good. For reference, I think the following card is 100 times too good to print, and is much worse than your card:
ReplyDeleteLand
T: Add {1} to your mana pool.
T: Scry 1.
I agree the second one is too strong, and that it's better than this one. I'm not convinced this one is so unprintable (though it is quite strong).
DeleteI think this land is better than Library of Alexandria.
DeleteIt's certainly better for an aggro deck, but strictly worse for a control deck.
DeleteAnyhow, you can remove the last sentence from Adventure Trail.
I think worse than library, but not by a whole lot, and easily better in aggressive decks that don't want library but would kill for card selection for free late game (e.g. burn)
DeleteControl decks would still kill for this card in all formats. This is exactly the kind of land control decks want. Compare this to Desolate Lighthouse, which sees play in Modern!
DeleteAnyway, as the sort of person who loves pushing the limits of what is at all reasonable in terms of card selection, here is my version:
Adventure Trail
Land - (R)
T: Exile the top card of your library face up. Add one mana to your mana pool of any color in the color identity of the exiled card.
5, T, Sacrifice ~: Return a card exiled with ~ from exile to your hand.
To contribute:
ReplyDeleteAdventure Trail
Land - Uncommon
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
T, Sacrifice Adventure Trail: Search your library for a basic land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. It doesn't untap during your next untap step. Shuffle your library afterwards.
Inspiring Crag
ReplyDeleteLand
ETBT with a charge counter.
T: Add R to your mana pool.
T, remove a charge counter: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool, or scry 1.
Vivid meets Temple. Doesn't capture "Adventure" so much as "check out this sweet view", though.
Nice. I think I'd prefer two counters and no vivid.
DeleteJust re-discovered Rootwater Depths cycle...
ReplyDeleteI still think any color is fine. Not untapping is big.
