  1. White feels like a weird place for this. This feels Blue to me (free casting, card advantage, pseudo copying). Black could get a version that searched the opponent's library, probably for 6-7 mana.

    1. Interesting. If it said "counter that spell" instead of "play your copy free" would that feel more white? What if the card was face-up and prevented casting it altogether? Obv blue is the color of countering, but white is the color of rule setting. Is it stuck WU, per Meddling Mage?

    2. This actually feels more like an artifact to me than a color, and gives it more flexibility to account for what the most played cards in a metagame are.

A Black version that searches your opponent's library is a great idea, and sure make the opponent squirm whenever they cast a spell.

    5. Yep! Interesting precedence on these designs. I'll include the card names in the future.

  2. Riffing on the black version:

    Smirking Sneakthief
    1BB
Creature - Human Rogue - Rare
    Skulk
When ~ deals combat damage to a player, search that player's library for a card and exile it facedown. Shuffle that library afterwards.
Whenever an opponent casts a spell with the same name as the exiled card, you may turn it face up and cast it without paying its mana cost.
