Cool Card Design of the Day
7/20/2017 - Green and blue love untapping things. In a vacuum, this card seems like a perfect {GU} common.
Of course we have to acknowledge that it's a ritual, and therefore currently in the realm of red (though Magic—and therefore red—hasn't been doing this much lately). There's an argument that if Twiddle is blue, so is this… we just might want to branch out something that's been traditionally blue into red to compensate. Blue certainly still has residual "it's the color of magic" foolishness affecting its slice of the color pie.

ReplyDeleteGiving Blue a way to so directly net mana from an untap effect feels more out of the color pie than in it. Greens gotten rituals in the past and sudden untap effects, so that's probably where this goes, although it's also the most dangerous place for it because of green's wild growths.
DeletePersonally, I'd love to see
Flickering Ritual 1R
Sorcery
Tap or untap three target lands.
I don't see how any of these cards can be 1CMC. Am I missing something?

DeleteMine was supposed to be 1R. Adding +1 mana isn't above the curve and it's hard to use in the first turn because it takes two lands. Doesn't seem like the worst space for it.
I think both may still be too good -though not offering card selection or a discard outlet, they compare favorably with Frantic Search which is banned in Legacy for a reason.
DeleteIf it weren't for nostalgia, High Tide would be banned in legacy instead of Frantic Search.
DeleteYeah, if High Tide was banned Candles would still be good but not busted. Yours is probably fine due to sorcery speed, but would still be appealing in Modern as another ritual effect and might be too good there.
DeleteCould be, although you can already play 8 desperate rituals in modern. And those might be better sense you can accelerate out things on turn 1-2
