This design went through a bunch of iterations, if I remember correctly. I knew I wanted a card selection effect that gave players the option or maybe the obligation to stop at some point. As usual, the best way to do that turned out to be the simplest too.

CCDD 071420 - Continuous Looting
This design went through a bunch of iterations, if I remember correctly. I knew I wanted a card selection effect that gave players the option or maybe the obligation to stop at some point. As usual, the best way to do that turned out to be the simplest too.

CCDD 051920 - Herald of Ula
As I run low on cool card design ideas I've started using the "random card" button for inspiration. Here's the first product of that. The card I got was Priest of the Wakening Sun, which tries to serve as small-creature support for Dinosaur tribal.

CCDD 042920 - Breakneck Pace

Red's gotten a lot better at card draw in recent years. We routinely see Rummaging Goblin and Act on Impulse effects even at lower rarities. The theme for both those effects is that they're "short-sighted"; red isn't necessarily gaining any permanent advantage out of them. That's not just a matter of flavor; it opens the way for some exciting designs that wouldn't be safe to print in blue.

CCDD 082014—Fanned Grek
Cool Card Design of the Day8/20/2014 - Red shouldn't mind sharing its 'inferior' looting ability with other players, partly because other players will have a little less to gain from it on average. I wanted an ETB creature that did that.

CCDD 032113—A Whack on the Side of the Head
Cool Card Design of the Day3/21/2013 - I was thinking how black is the only color that gets discard, and wondered how other colors could do it. I remembered how red often discards in order to draw, ala Goblin Lore. What if it could do that offensively? I set out to make a card like that and this is the result:

CCDD 112412—Peer Below
Cool Card Design of the Day11/24/2012 - I don't know that this effect is particularly red, though I do think it's at least arguable. It's really just what came to mind when I saw this Dwarf inspecting this crag.
What do you think? Red can discard cards to draw a cards and it can sacrifice Mountains to empower effects. Is this kosher? Assuming we agree it doesn't belong in a core set, what kind of expert set might Peer Below belong in?

CCDD 031011—Student of the Elements
Cool Card Design of the Day3/10/2011 - Student of the Elements is another art-inspired design (sadly, from before I started noting where the art was from). It felt distinctly red and blue and so I started looking for an unexplored overlap between those two colors. As looting has only recently been proposed as a red mechanic, there is a lot of virgin territory opened up there that I would like to explore.
