4/28/2015 - Spells that give your opponent a choice are only effective when both options are worth the cost of your card, and most interesting when the choice is close and changes throughout the game. Here's one.
Kindle Passion is potentially a permanent red Mind Control for {3}{R}{R}{R}. But if your opponent can produce {2}{R}, you'll both be fighting over the creature each round. There are a lot of red cards that cause this kind of custody battle. The difference that will upset some people here is that the condition is neither random nor color-agnostic, but determined when the match starts. Here are a couple alternates that more faithfully follow precedence.
Of these, I like Emberwilde best. But the fact that you have to wait a full turn to get the creature is pretty underwhelming. I'd rather it triggered during the end step; that way you wouldn't even need Haste.
ReplyDeleteThat gets really weird in multiplayer. We'd need something like "at the beginning of each end step directly preceding your turn".
DeleteI like both the alternatives better than the original, and the hybrid feels cleaner in a set that's already using it. Another possibility I like is a colorless cost, but giving you control when the aura enters the battlefield:
ReplyDeleteReconsidered Passion 2RR
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant Creature
You control enchanted creature and it has haste.
At the beginning of combat on each player's turn, that player may pay {4}. If they do, untap enchanted creature and that player gains control of ~.
Nice!
