I've been contemplating the problem of mono-color archetypes in draft. The biggest issue is that roughly 20% of a pack will be of that color/usable in your deck, whereas if you're drafting two colors your card selection increases to 40%. Incentivizing at least some of the people sitting around the table to draft mono is a tricky thing for a designer to do.

CCDD 02132018 - DFC Evolution
KingRitz's submission over the weekend had me thinking about DFCs that could just straight-up be cast on either side.

Tesla Design Challenge 082916: Double Time
Hi everybody! Last week, I uploaded a complete commons/uncommons playtest version of Tesla to PlaneSculptors.net. Nonetheless, though, we have a lot left to do. We still need not only rares and mythics, but also to slot in the other DFC cards for uncommon, replacing some cards already in the file. So let's get on that, then! This week, the challenge will revolve around filling in these slots!

Tesla: About Double Face
Welcome back, everyone! Last time on Tesla, we discussed Kicker variants for Tesla. One of the big possibilities we discussed was a mechanic called Discovery (now being called 'Develop'), which utilized double-faced card technology for its unique take on Kicker. This week, we're going to discuss the role of DFCs in Tesla, and what approaches we could take regarding them.

CCDD 050515—Shocking Experiment / Enlightening Result
Cool Card Design of the Day5/5/2015 - Let's explore non-permanent double-faced cards a while. The Sol Forge mechanic seems like a promising place to start: The first time you play a card, you 'learn from it' so that the next time you play it, it's stronger.

CCDD 032713—Mecha
Cool Card Design of the Day3/27/2013 - Today is more about trying to visually demonstrate a really crazy idea we were discussing for Ekkremes than focusing on a particular card design. The very brief version is: What if there were dual-faced artifacts and the reverse sides combine in pairs to form a new card…and the reverse is a split so that you can combine those two cards in multiple ways?
I know that makes no sense to read, and that's why I've mocked up the back side of two such cards.
