CCDD 060420 - Phyrexian Prosthetic

I forget where I got the idea for this design. Maybe I was trying to come up with cool equip cost discounts, like the ones on Ghostfire Blade and Blackblade Reforged. Or maybe I was just trying to design a card for Tezzeret the Seeker's arm and got the lore mixed up.

CCDD 041218 - Batching and Augmented

I was reading MaRo's article on Historic and the new mechanic technology of Batching a few days ago. I have thoughts on it, but I'll save those for a twitter rant. In the meantime, I was thinking about other ways to use batching, and came up with Augmented.

CCDD 032018 - Planar Blade, Seldark, and Saldra

In a Weekend Challenge from a few weeks ago, Doug Kent submitted a Legendary creature that "turned on" if you controlled the legendary equipment associated with him. This is a trope that has played out on a few different cards in the past, and always fun space to explore. It did get me thinking, though, about the story implications of having a legendary equipment that interacted differently depending on who was holding it.

CCDD 022718 - Conjured Augmentation and Cascading Design Restrictions

Holy guacamole, the GDS3 design test is fun. My first two first draft designs were an Uncommon Azorius Enchantment and an Uncommon Orzhov Creature. Those decisions put the tightest squeeze on what I would be able to do in Boros and Selesnya, so those are the cards I decided to tackle next.

CCDD 100417—Sword Cabinet

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/4/2017 - This card might be a bad idea because of memory issues, but the equipment version of Primal Clay is cute, at least.

CCDD 050417—Haunted Blade

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/4/2017 - Top-down equipment.

CCDD 030215—Peasant Army

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/2/2015 - It'll be a bit before the WAC review goes up, so here's a CCDD for now. Peasant Army is directly inspired by Pasteur's Arm the Masses.

CCDD 010615—Corelink

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/6/2015 - Like auras, and with good reason, equipment doesn't tap. Players tend to tap and untap everything attached to a creature with that creature and so tracking the actual tapped state of equipment independently of the equipped creature is awkward and could cause misplays.

But I really wanted to see if I could make a geared equipment, so I gave the creature vigilance, which means it won't be tapping at all (unless it has a tap ability, but you'll soon see you want to be attacking with it.)

CCDD 071614—Battle Standard

Cool Card Design of the Day
7/16/2014 - A dirt simple update to Konda's Banner, intended to give any color access to a Glorious Anthem effect, inspired by the M15 Paragons.

CCDD 081313—Blastwand .33

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/13/2013 - This is the card I made based on Taresivon's Pazblade Retributor. While it half wants to live in Tesla and half in Frontier, the effect is reasonably simple, turning anything into an Ashmouth Hound or Somberwald Vigilante* (hence the discount for using red mana). *That can also defend.

CCDD 051911—Goblin Giving

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/19/2011 - There are a few variations of equipment stealing and destruction across the two Mirrodin blocks: Magnetic Theft, Ogre Geargrabber, Metallic Master, Turn to Slag, and Unforge. Goblin Giving continues in that tradition and combines both goals.

CCDD 050311—Titanic Golempants, Platinum Lance & Plate of Kaldra

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/3/2011 - Yesterday, I panned the design of Batterskull on the basis of it feeling uninspired, a dire quality for a mythic rare. While I don't remotely think I'm a better designer than anyone on the New Phyrexia design team, where I come from constructive criticism is at its best when followed by earnest suggestions for improvement. Today, I attempt to design a better mythic rare living weapon.

CCDD 042011—Smith's Hammer

Cool Card Design of the Day
4/20/2011 - I'm pretty sure the only reason Smith's Hammer wasn't printed in this block was that it reads too much like Adventuring Gear from the last block. The purpose of this card in the set was still met, but they filled it from a different angle with Silverskin Armor—which is a fine card, if a bit too similar to Liquimetal Coating for my taste.

CCDD 032511—Sylvok Deathstaff

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/25/2011 - I forget what got me thinking about a polar opposite to Sylvok Lifestaff. Maybe it was the cycle of swords. Maybe it was Doug Beyer being contagiously enthusiastic about elves. Or possibly I was compleating fun Mirran cards, in the style of Blightsteel Colossus. Regardless, I am pleasantly surprised with how Sylvok Deathstaff turned out.
